The Department of Health Behavior and Policy (HBP) in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine invites applications for a full time 12-month, tenure-track, faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The mission of the Department of Health Behavior and Policy is to transform the health landscape through multidisciplinary research, education, and service. Led by department chair, Dr. Vanessa Sheppard, the HBP Department includes 16 faculty members whose research is focused on identifying the behavioral, social, organizational, and policy factors that affect the health of individuals and populations. As educators, we aim to develop thought leaders with diverse perspectives for professional and research careers through our two doctoral programs (Social & Behavioral Sciences and Healthcare Policy & Research).
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated expertise well aligned with the Social & Behavioral Sciences program, which has considerable strengths in each of the following areas: quantitative and experimental methods, qualitative and mixed methods, program design and evaluation, communication and decision making, and community engagement. Incorporating a social determinants of health framework and promoting health equity is a cross cutting theme in the SBS program. Candidates with research programs in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: design, testing and evaluation of novel health communication and/or decision aid interventions; patient decision making; community-based health promotion; women’s health. Applicants whose program of research is related to cancer prevention and control are also of interest.
Those applying at the Assistant Professor rank should show evidence of research productivity and the potential to obtain extramural funding.
