The George Mason University Division of University Life invites applications for an Associate Director of Data Analytics. This position leads data analytics and reporting for the Divisional Operations and Planning area of University Life, implementing and maintaining an analytic infrastructure for student data analysis and other divisional initiatives and processes. Responsibilities include:
Evaluates the diverse data sources across the Division of University Life, and determines how best to leverage the MicroStrategy reporting platform for analysis and reporting needs;
Partners with other university offices—such as the Information Technology Services Business Intelligence unit, Institutional Research and Reporting, and the Registrar area—regarding student data reporting platforms, analysis and data access;
Leads division data activities, leveraging appropriate technologies to support analytic needs of division;
Architects, designs, builds and maintains data solutions leveraging database and reporting tools;
Makes recommendations about methods to collect, analyze, and manage data to improve data quality and the efficiency of data systems;
Provides consultation and support to division and unit data analytic needs, providing tools to enable effective KPI reporting for the division;
Uses data to create models that identify trends in student outcomes;
Uses statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful reports; and
Provides business analysis to identify and recommend ways to streamline business processes.
Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Demonstrated experience in a data analyst, developer or business analyst role;
Proficiency in writing SQL with enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, etc.;
Proficiency with enterprise reporting platforms such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, Business Objects, etc.;
Demonstrated ability to understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation;
Proficiency in relational database design;
Proficiency with statistical software such as SAS, R, etc.; and
Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders and translating complex technical concepts for functional users.
Master's degree in higher education, social sciences, computer science/analytics, business administration, or a related field;
Demonstrated experience with assessment-related work in a university setting; and
Experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills.
