Macromolecules Innovation Institute at Virginia Tech (MII) is an interdisciplinary group committed to continuing the growth and advancing the stature of the existing, highly-ranked macromolecular science and engineering program at Virginia Tech. We are committed to fostering a dynamic environment that enthusiastically promotes the recruitment and education of high-quality students; actively initiates and conducts timely research at both the basic and applied levels; and vigorously pursues continuing education and economic growth through outreach activities with industry and government agencies. MII has an exciting opening for a Communications Coordinator/Administrative Assistant. The incumbent will serve as communications coordinator for Macromolecules Innovation Institute (MII). This includes maintaining websites and various social media accounts (LinkedIn, etc.), organizing material for annual magazine, preparing reports, brochures and presentations, and assisting with event planning as needed. Also will serve as administrative assistant to MII Associate Director. Duties will include coordinating and implementing a new short course, scheduling meetings and travel, maintaining Outlook calendar, and proofreading and editing.
Experience working with WordPress to create and edit websites
Experience administrating social media
Proficiency with Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Composition, proofreading and editing experience
Ability to work independently on multiple projects
Ability to work with a wide range of professionals within a teamwork setting
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience
Administrative experience in a science/engineering background
Technical writing experience
Prior University experience with systems such as HokieMart and TEM
