The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Director of Oral Health within the Division of Promotion.
The Director of Oral Health will be responsible for working with the MCH and WIC Directors and staff, stakeholders, and partners to advise on strategies to improve health outcomes and wellbeing of mothers and children in the state of Georgia. The Director of Oral Health is the dental expert on MCH and WIC within DPH and will serve as a key advisor on DPH key priority areas and Health Promotion programs. Additionally, the Director of Oral Health with advise and provide counsel as needed on new dental conditions and associated programmatic activities.
Serve as a dental advisor to the Director for Health Promotion and the Directors of MCH and WIC
Provides the strategic direction, management and professional development necessary to ensure the unit effectively meets its objectives
Advise MCH and WIC Directors regarding clinical program performance, quality improvement, and program informatics
Promote teledentistry and other innovative technology to improve access to individuals in underserved rural areas
Develop and maintain a quality assurance program and protocols for providing clinical services through MCH and WIC programs; provide advice and recommendations to Directors to help maintain and improve the quality of care
Participate in the process and provide clinical judgment to ensure appropriateness and quality of care
Develop and maintain a curriculum of clinical education for MCH and WIC staff
Develop and periodically review rules and regulations governing program services and advise business owners / directors of MCH and WIC
Serve as an ambassador to external stakeholders about the MCH and WIC programs, goals, and stakeholder roles
Remain current with regulatory and accreditation standards, implications of healthcare law, and delivery system trends
Advise Directors by acquiring, maintaining, and applying knowledge of social, regulatory, political, and economic factors that relate to patient services through MCH and WIC programs
Upon request, serve on various internal and external committees and report on progress to the Director(s)
Works with the MCH and WIC Directors and staff to identify community stakeholders and their extent of engagement in the collaboration process
Establishes ongoing relationships with key opinion leaders and external organizations that leverage the goals of DPH, MCH, and WIC
Participates in DPH Speaker's Bureau as subject matter expert for DPH, MCH, and WIC topics and key priority areas
Maintains ongoing awareness of Health Promotion and DPH's overall strategy, government and social conditions and trends to ensure appropriate responses to changes in policies and finances
Provides input regarding the DPH, MCH, and WIC strategic plans with the development of grants applications and concept proposals
Serves as a dental expert and works with the Dental and Nurse Consultants on protocols such as child health and perinatal health and also serves as a liaison with the dental community at large including the local dental societies, dental schools, as well as community dentists
Responsible for all supervisory activity of staff (e.g., hiring, on-boarding, setting performance and development objectives, evaluating performance, corrective action planning, recognizing performance, reviewing leave requests)
Provides support to the Division Director and Health Promotion key priority areas; represents the Director(s) as needed for presentations, meetings, or events
Performs other assignments as required
Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience AND current Georgia license to practice dentistry.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the minimum qualification possess the following:
Significant experience in health care services management and staff supervision.
Experience with public health program management
Knowledge of maternal and child health programs
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interface with senior leadership and state legislators
Established ability to build and cultivate relationships
Ability to build strong partnership sand relationships across multiple functions, locations, and governmental agencies (i.e., state, local, and federal)
Able to work effectively in a high stress, changing environment
