In 1989, Dr. Kathy Purcell started Boiling Springs Animal Hospital as a sole practitioner in a small town. Her first associate, Dr. Karen Pittelli, was hired in 1990 and has since become co-owner. Over the years, the clinic has seen many changes, including earning early AAHA accreditation in 1991 and a large practice expansion in 2006. Many of our staff are long-term employees, several dating back to when the practice first opened. While we mostly treat dogs and cats, we also work regularly with ferrets and pocket pets; we've even had the occasional pet chicken, duck, or pot-belly pig!
Our clientele are wonderful and widely varied, and our ultimate goal is to help strengthen the bond between owners and their pets. We strive to adapt to the changing needs of our clients, maintaining relationships with Baby Boomers and Millennials alike. We have also filled a demand in our area for reproductive management and services. We have easy access to many veterinary specialty practices, two 24-hour emergency clinics, and several universities as we are near Interstates 81 and 83, and Route 15.
Continuing education is at the forefront of our learning, and we take pride in keeping up with cutting-edge clinical technology. Our laboratory houses Idexx diagnostic equipment that is paired with our Cornerstone practice management system. We have a digital radiology system associated with Antech Imaging Services, and we now offer both abdominal and cardiac ultrasonography supported by Oncura Partners. Experienced, trained technicians utilize our Inovadent high-speed dental cart and dental radiology, and our surgery suite boasts an Aesculight laser surgery unit. We believe in multimodal pain management, offering cold laser therapy with a Companion Therapy Laser.
We are located in the rural town of Boiling Springs, located just outside Carlisle, PA. The local area offers the beauty of Pennsylvania's countryside, while being close to a wide variety of amenities. The area also boasts many shopping and dining opportunities, including numerous artisan restaurants and an assortment of breweries and wineries. For a more urban nightlife or weekend, we are only a short drive to the metropolitan areas of Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
