We are seeking an innovative, self-motivated PhD-level Scientist (Research Specialist) with a concentration in molecular biology to join the RNAi / CRISPR / Gene Editing Core Facility at MSK. The ideal candidate will utilize a number of functional genomic platforms including pooled lenti CRISPR-Cas9, CRISPR-A, shRNA and siRNA to discover novel protein targets related to cancer biology.
Demonstrate expertise in the fields of gene editing, RNA interference, cancer biology, molecular physiology, and cellular dynamics. A central remit will be to design, execute and interpret gene perturbation experiments, working closely with our principal investigators and their labs. Readouts may include high content phenotypic assays and other cell-based metrics.
You will work both independently and within a team concept to advance the cutting-edge forefront of CRISPR-Cas9 biology in order to identify and validate novel cancer drug targets.
Experiments may comprise straight lethality and synthetic lethality screens, 3D organoids, signal transduction, the cell cycle, transcriptional regulation, metabolism, or FACS-based separations, to exploit genetic vulnerabilities in tumors using a variety of cell types including cancer cell lines (adherent and in suspension), patient-derived primary cells, and pluripotent cells.
Possession of facile interpersonal abilities in a fast-paced institutional/hospital environment and skilled written/verbal communication is essential for this role.
Utilize electronic data capture/analysis tools such as KNIME, GSEA, Vortex, Excel, and PowerPoint for documenting and publishing experiments.
PhD in Molecular Biology, Molecular Biochemistry, or a comparable biological science with post-doctoral training or equivalent experience in cancer biology or a related discipline.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in academia or industry focused on the creation of unique or enabling molecular biology reagents.
Expertise in gene knockdown technologies utilizing RNAi and CRISPR platforms, Sanger sequencing, NGS, FACS analysis, qPCR, immunofluorescence, ELISA, and cell-based phenotypic assays is critical. Technical expertise in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture techniques and cell-based functional assays is vital
Technical expertise should include, but not be limited to: DNA cloning, ligation, sterile cell culture, retro-viral and lenti-viral packaging, high-efficiency host cell infections with shRNA / sgRNAs, gDNA isolation, PCR amplification, barcoding, and sample preparation for HiSeq NGS.
Experience at grant writing is a plus.
