Under general direction, supervise the operations and activities for the assigned shift(s) of the Safety & Security department by monitoring and providing protection and security for hospital buildings and premises, and for employees, patients, and visitors. Ensure order and supervises enforcement of traffic control, parking procedures, and tobacco free environment practices. Direct Security response to disasters and other emergency situations, codes, and conditions. Provide training to hospital personnel.
In the absence of the supervisor, receive and relay information, instructions and/or materials, between each shift, and make shift assignments. Oversee all work performed by all officers in accordance with department expectations. Consult with and keep the supervisor/director informed of activities, needs, and problems on assigned shift. Calculate daily productivity, review activity logs for officers short falls, send productivity and discuss recommendations with immediate supervisor.
Assist supervisor in the completion of employee appraisals in a timely fashion and make recommendations to supervisor for promotional and/or disciplinary action. Observe and evaluate work performance/assignments of officers, ensuring assignments are completed effectively and efficiently. Guide, coach, and counsel as necessary in conjunction with and/or in the absence of the supervisor. Assist with the selection and orientation of new personnel and act as a mentor/role model to exceptional performance to all department staff. Act as Field Training Officer (FTO) for orientation and training of new Officers; ensure that competence validation paperwork is completed; recommend improvements in work methods.
Utilize and demonstrate Behavior management philosophy of the hospital. Maintain CAPE certification or its equivalent as required by the organization. Identify and/or respond to situations where potential aggressive and/or violent acts exist or may emerge (i.e. employee terminations, eloped patients, standbys, etc). Utilize custody and control techniques and equipment; initiate secure holding policy when appropriate for individuals requiring detainment and/or a secure environment.
Utilize and respond to emergency codes, drills, and alerts and provide related guidance. Participate in emergency situations and/or internal/external disasters. Perform security role as required for Incident Command System (ICS), MERC, and Hazwoper 1st Receiver Awareness/Operations. Conduct training on fire, disaster, evacuation, and emergency response techniques. Assign fire drills and monitor officers' effectiveness of performance of said drills.
Ensure that hospital and contract facilities are patrolled by vehicle and on foot to prevent fire, theft, vandalism or other crimes, and take appropriate action if necessary. Ensure safety and security violations are reported and resolved promptly. Review logs for accuracy and completeness. Conduct investigations and prepare incident reports and other documents. Review reports submitted by officers for completeness and accuracy. Monitor the conduct of employees and visitors on hospital/contract facilities premises. Approach and address individuals using tobacco products. Ensure compliance with reporting of Complete Tobacco Free Environment record and forward to appropriate supervisor.
Provide orientation and training to new hospital employees and physicians. Familiarize new individuals with code procedures, parking, safety and security concerns, emergency management, etc.
Maintain competence in use of CCTV and access control equipment; able to troubleshoot dysfunction. Ensure the care and maintenance of department equipment. Operate vehicles in a safe fashion and in compliance with traffic rules and regulations. Perform vehicle inspections. Review and receive envelopes containing valuables from previous shift supervisor. Maintain the 'lost and found' section of the Safety & Security Department.
Perform the duties of a Security Officer at a mastery level, demonstrate behavior management, and ensure care/maintenance of department equipment.
Fosters, participates and is knowledgeable in Shared Accountability as defined at St. Anthony. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own practice, continuing education, competency and quality. Participate in committees, teams, councils and work groups.
When applicable greet Healthplex Outpatients and Emergency Department visitors and family, "arrive" all patients presenting to the Healthplex in Epic, and direct patients to appropriate care setting or waiting area.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Licensed by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) as a Security Guard within 90 days of employment. Peace Officer License may be substituted to Security Guard license as long as concurrent employment in Law Enforcement is maintained.
Current Oklahoma driver's license and driving record which meets hospital standards.
Security or law enforcement experience required.
CPR Heartsaver required.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
One year of St. Anthony Hospital Safety & Security Department experience preferred.
