Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Responsible for administering critical central network systems supported and maintained by ITS. Manage and monitor network status via applications and appliances. Assist in administration of campus-wide DNS and/or DHCP servers. Responsible for maintaining acceptable response time and uptime for all central network systems, and peripheral devices. Monitor and maintain network status and systems' security. Responsible for maintaining highly available Cisco and Aruba network infrastructure. Responsible for proper operation, preventative maintenance and upgrades to networking systems and devices used in conjunction with network operations (e.g., OS and firmware updates) Create and maintain installation, operation, and troubleshooting documentation for all network systems, using standardized documentation templates and procedures and maintain drawings of entire network infrastructure. Maintain proper backup/recovery procedures and documentation for all network-related systems. Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks; including hardware like routers, switches and access points. Repair and/or replace defective networking equipment Troubleshoot optical connections including LX and SX media Help maintain VPN services for campus community
Troubleshooting and Repair Responsible for various levels of network troubleshooting including providing support for hardware, software, communications, inter- and intra- building wiring coordination and associated peripheral devices. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment-related problems as needed to maintain service levels. Resolve hardware/software performance problems. Document troubleshooting solutions and provide proactive steps toward preventing future outages and/or problems. Troubleshoot routing problems Assist in replacement of defective networking equipment Troubleshoot optical connections including LX and SX media.
Training and Support Act as a technical liaison between clients, university departments and non-university contractors (e.g.: system vendors, technical staff, off-campus vendors, etc.) Assist in training of ITS office staff, and designated department representatives on the function, use, and support of network systems and applications. Develop and maintain excellent technical documentation and procedural manuals. Provide the technical knowledge and expertise to help resolve operational inaccuracies of ITS systems. Monitor network status using network monitoring tools. Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Qualifications: Minimum: Two years of related networking experience in two or more of the following areas o Installing and troubleshooting of network devices o TCP/IP protocols o Cisco routers and switches o Wireless and wireless security technologies o Security, client firewalls, network protocol knowledge Cisco Academy/AA/AS or two years related college curriculum can substitute for up to one year of the required experience. Cisco Academy with CCNA In Lieu of two years experience. Ability to implement basic LANs/WANs and associated systems. Knowledge of standard network hardware (e.g., switches, routers, firewalls) Excellent problem resolution skills and customer service orientation. Solid command of MS-Office including MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
Preferred: (In addition to the above minimum qualifications) BA or BS degree or in a technical discipline such as Engineering or Computer Science. Two years experience in large network environment. Work experience with enterprise or carrier-class datacenter environments. Have or currently pursuing CCNA or industry equivalent certification.

The ability to install, configure and troubleshoot network devices such as routers, switches, wireless devices, firewalls, etc. Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills. The ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with technical and non-technical people. Managing multiple tasks and responsibilities in a mature manner. Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues, faculty, administrators and staff. The willingness and ability to represent the University in the most positive manner to former, current and prospective students and their families, clients, vendors and the community we serve. The ability to meet with faculty, administrators and staff to correctly ascertain their needs and requirements. Flexibility in order to contribute within this dynamic environment. Have excellent instructional, human relations and problem solving skills. The ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion. The ability to work with varying levels of supervision. A commitment to department staff through on-going training and other personal advancement techniques.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Have or obtain CCNA or industry equivalent certification within one year of employment.
