FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTMedgar Evers College seeks an Assistant Professor for its Bachelors of Science in Social Work (BSSW) Degree Program/Field Education Program. This full time tenure-track appointment in the undergraduate social work program begins in Spring 2018.The Assistant Professor will work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Field Education to perform the tasks that are associated with coordinating the Field Education Component: teaching social work courses, student advising, mentoring, other support services to students, as well as other related academic responsibilities. The applicant is expected to be engaged in the processes of continued renewal of the BSSW degree program which received its first full accreditation by CSWE in October 2012, and is preparing for its Reaffirmation visit in 2018. Other expectations include engagement in scholarship, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals.The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) degree prepares students for beginning generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. The program builds on a solid liberal arts foundation, provides a challenging social work generalist curriculum in practice, policy and services, human behavior in the social environment, and field practice education. The BSSW program curriculum offers students an opportunity to select from one of three content areas of interest: substance abuse, gerontology and child welfare, so that they may acquire in-depth knowledge in one of these challenging areas. D in Social Work or a related field and a minimum of five years post-MSW teaching experience a minimum of five years post MSW practice teaching experience and knowledge of social work research methods in which students are exposed to the use of the scientific method including the formulation of research problems/questions and hypotheses and the role of theory in research, qualitative and quantitative research designs, analysis of data and reporting of findings. In addition, an applicant is expected to have knowledge of and teaching Social Work Foundation Courses as well as knowledge of CSWE Field Education requirements.
