The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.The Department of English at Medgar Evers College invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in English (Professional Writing) with expertise in journalism, magazine writing, web-based writing, publishing and technical writing. Professional Writing is a concentration in the English BA program. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses related to professional writing, designing curriculum and program development related to the Professional Writing concentration, advising and mentoring students, and serving on college and university committees. All faculty are required to teach at least one composition course in the English department. The current professional writing concentration is primarily career-oriented. We desire a candidate who has a commitment to developing a strong professional writing concentration that will serve our majors as well as the college community. Master's degree in journalism or in a field relevant to the person's professional work, contributions to the field, and experience in new media writing.The desired candidate will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.Preferred Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a publication record in professional writing, expertise in teaching professional writing, evidence of ongoing program, creative and/or scholarly activity related to professional writing and commensurate experience in the area of professional writing.
