The American Trucking Associations (ATA), the nation’s leading trade and lobby association representing the trucking industry, is actively seeking a Manager, National Accounting & Finance Council (NAFC). The incumbent in this role will support the council mission to provide sound technical support for ATA’s advocacy and education programs in the areas of taxation, finance, accounting, technology, and risk management.
This is the NAFC staff member who collects, produces and disseminates industry news of interest to Council members. This position also keeps the trucking industry abreast of news and developments occurring within NAFC. This position may interact with ATA staff at all levels, ATA and council members, federal, state, and local agencies for tax and financial information, the general public and other motor carrier or accounting, H.R., tax, finance, technology, or insurance related organizations. This position supervises other ATA staff when working on behalf of NAFC efforts and operates within the NAFC budget. This position assists in the preparation of the annual budget.
Researches and provides high quality technical information using professional accounting, tax, insurance, H.R., technology, and finance information sources to create trucking industry specific products and services on relevant tax, accounting, and finance issues.
Association leader on member work projects including coordinating webinars, social media events (e.g. Facebook Live), and NAFC publications.
Along with the SVP, staffs the NAFC subcommittees, prepares annual conference and committee or task force meeting agendas and arrangements, researches relevant issues and monitors legislation, regulation, and key legal decisions.
Produces the monthly member newsletter 6 times per year, acts on own initiative to research and produce fact sheets and fact papers on issues dealing with accounting, tax, finance, H.R., technology or risk management, as needed, and responds to member inquiries with speed, accuracy, and professional tact.
Knowledge and Skills
BS/BA in business, finance, accounting, or government financial policy required;
Plus a minimum of 3 years financial management experience or risk management, leading to decision making level;
Must have knowledge of the functions of the US treasury, IRS, SEC, FASB and the PCAOB; with knowledge of the surface transportation and logistics industry desired;
Must have sound, analytical, research and writing skills with an entrepreneurial and business orientation;
Previous project supervisory and management experience and skills preferred;
Must have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, event coordination experience, ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and be customer-service oriented with the ability to work independently;
Advanced working knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Prezi, webpage content management, social media, and Personify (or some other trade association type database) required.
