This position provides academic advising and degree planning support to students who are in an online major program. Academic Advisors provide information to incoming students, basic advising support to students in their majors that includes general education and graduation requirement advising, interventions for students with academic alerts and lend additional support to students on academic warning/probation. This position plays a vital role in student success for students in online programs at CWU.
- Advise students, providing academic advising, intervention, and appropriate referrals, as necessary. - Advise students about general education and pre-major or major requirements - Advise prospective and incoming transfer students - Help students to make informed academic decisions, use and interpret their Academic Requirements Report, and progress efficiently towards degree completion - Assist students with course articulation, and recommend appropriate academic course loads and course selections - Analyze and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results, as well as university policy and procedures - Design and deliver presentations to various audiences - Work closely with assigned students that are on academic warning and probation. - Develop web-based advising resources and communications for online students. - Assist with advising, registration, and presentations for new online student orientations. - Liaison/Outreach: Develop strong working relationships with academic departments, programs, faculty, and staff across campus - Collaborate with other student success units. - Other duties as assigned
Excellent interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and listening skills
Fluency with online communication and collaboration technologies.
Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff and faculty
Demonstrated ability in the use of Word, Excel, email and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, and receive and respond to email inquiries, tasks, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects
Demonstrated experience working with a large student database system
Demonstrated experience working with a Learning Management System similar to Canvas
Experience in academic advising within a college or similar setting

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. The position requires a certain amount of mobility in order to retrieve files, attend meetings, respond to clients in person, on the phone, and via email. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
