Northwestern Medical Center is seeking a Medical Director for our Comprehensive Pain Program. Our Comprehensive Pain Program treats both chronic pain and addiction patients at our Catherine Street location in St. Albans, Vermont. Our ideal candidate for this Medical Director role would be a non-interventional pain management physician with experience treating both chronic pain and addiction patients through medical management. In addition, knowledge and use of alternative therapies for treatment of chronic pain (non-interventional techniques) is highly desireable. Develop, organize, and implement comprehensive services to help patients optimize functional abilities and develop life-long pain management skills.
In addition to chronic pain management, the physicians at Northwestern Comprehensive Pain provide prevention, screening, intervention and treatment related to substance use disorders and addiction. Our program provides a team-based approach with other physicians on site as well as in our community practices. The physician works closely with community resources including but not limited to mental health services, probation and parole, recovery networks and the Department for Children and Families, to ensure the best treatment plan is coordinated for all participants. The Physician will work aggressively in our community to ensure open access and maintain access to care.
There is an opportunity to make a powerful difference in our community in this full time position. The Comprehensive Pain Clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no call required for this position. The Medical Director will provide supervision to other providers within the clinic as part of this role.

Education: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Vermont. Board Certified/Eligible in Addiction Medicine. If not board certified in Addiction at the time of hire, s/he has up to five years from the date of eligibility to sit for boards. Board Certification in a primary specialty is required for Medical Staff Membership.
Experience: One year of experience in the treatment of narcotic addiction preferred, as well as experience in medically assisted treatment of addiction. Proficiency with computerized electronic medical record within a practice setting preferred.
Special Skills: A high degree of discipline with regards to compliance with policies and procedures are required in order to successfully manage this complex population. The physician must have the ability to provide a vision of caring while requiring compliance to a uniform set of expectations for every patient.
