Job Requisition Number: 23395. The Student Learning Center is a global learning community where student scholars convene to discover, uncover, and recover ideas, concepts, languages and cultures. Since 1973, it has been the primary academic unit on campus tasked with providing peer-led support services to Cal undergraduates. It has served approximately 80,000 students in its forty-year history, with a little more than 9,500 students in the 2016-2017 academic year alone. The Center?s work has been at the forefront of increasing and maintaining the University?s retention and graduation rates, which are the highest in the UC system and in the top three of higher-learning institutions in the nation. The Student Learning Center belongs to the Division of Undergraduate Education.
This is a 100% contract position for the academic years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.
The SLC Economics Coordinator assists the director in the administration of the SLC Economics Program, from managing the daily operations of the program to supervising a tutorial staff of 12-15 undergraduate/graduate students. Specifically, the incumbent will: ?Deliver established academic support programs in Economics ?Assist with supervision and training of peer tutorial staff of 12-15 undergraduates and graduate tutors ?Assist with the coordination of daily program operations, from user outreach to website maintenance ?Support the development and facilitation of field studies courses on peer pedagogy for undergraduate tutors ?Administer established formative and summative evaluation tools to enhance delivery of academic support models ?Maintains knowledge of course and departmental curricula ?Collaborate with designated faculty, departmental staff and the Program Director to address changes needed in academic support service ?Develop effective working relationships with campus partners to ascertain and meet student needs ?Support and mentor students with academic interests and professional goals in Economics ?Provide direct service to students in a variety of program formats, including drop-in tutoring, study group, exam review, topical workshop, and adjunct course ?Serve students in navigating the critical transition points in gateway courses into the Economics major; specifically attending to the demands and expectations of the discipline?Bachelor's degree in Economics or equivalent ?Knowledge of multiple learning styles, affective, socio-cultural and linguistic issues as they apply to academic support ?Knowledge of academic and curricular issues as they apply to academic support. ?Knowledge and experience working with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty ?Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills. ?Good judgment; keen professional acumen ?Proficient computer skills, including experience using the Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and/or Access This is a 2 year, full-time contract position with full UC benefits.
